Politician Problem

"You gave him what I he wanted, but I gave him what he needed."  That's a quote from the movie Legion.  I won't give it the movie away but basically there are 2 sons and the one who gave god what he needed instead of what he wanted received love in the end.

Politicians have a bad habit of doing what the other brother did.  They give or at least promise things that the people think they want or need.  However their job should be to provide what is needed.  And sadly I think this may lead to demise of democracy in the long wrong.  All politician fight for is re-election and honestly it's pretty easy to get in a country doesn't pay attention to politics.  Well assumming the economy is good anyway.  But, in times when it's bad the party in power will just keep getting changed until economics return to stable position.  Not to mention the obvious propaganda from different news stations.  I love how they all spin things so much.  Fox is obviously in favor of republicans while nbc is more for democrats.  CNN I don't even pay attention to because they don't seem to cover many political things anymore (but they do seem more fair than the other 2 :P ).

However I digress...   Politicians also fail to look to the future not only making their job harder (as all strive for re-election so there is a chance they'll be in power when it comes back flying in their face) but screwing future generation in general.  On example would be the national debt.  Publicly it's at about 12 trillion dollars.  However it's actually much higher than that because of all the money that was used for behind the scenes stuff that isn't included.  It's over 100 trillion dollars in debt.  I'm sorry but no matter how you look at it's almost impossible to now correct this without pissing off the country.  But to even have a chance you would have to do 2 things at the same time.

  1. Raise Taxes - Yes, the all hated taxes.  But, guess what they are important stop bitching!  How do you think roads are built, schools, police, firemen, and every other public system are paid for?  Sure we could just increase our debt but that pisses you off too.  So pick one or stop crying in general.  I hate ignorance well honestly 90% of Americans are if you don't spell it out for them (something politicians fear to do).
  2. Cut spending - And, I mean across the board in a grand scale.  People will hate the government for a long time but as we get a surplus we can start bringing stuff back.  I would start by getting rid of the standing army.  All the greatest empires failed because they became to big.  Armies are very expensive.  Now I'm not saying completely get rid of them but we don't need the largest army at all times.  I would also say if we aren't going to some sort of system like single payer or universal health care cut a lot of it out of the budget.  Now to contradict my point I would say put more money in schools and infrastructure.  As this will allow for america to come back hard and strong after the tough times of high taxes and low spending.

That's about all, not really what I had planned for the post but I like still :D .
